Rayner launches world’s first spiral IOL in Brazil

Posted on 27/06/2025

Rayner, a global manufacturer of products for cataract surgery based in Worthing, UK, announces today that its RayOne Galaxy and RayOne Galaxy Toric intraocular lenses are now available in Brazil.

RayOne Galaxy, which saw a full commercial release in January 2025 following a highly successful multicenter study, sets a new standard for what surgeons can offer their premium lens replacement patients. Developed in collaboration with a leading Brazilian surgeon using a proprietary AI engine, its unique non-diffractive spiral optic delivers a smooth and continuous full range of vision with minimised dysphotopsia and 0% loss of transmitted light.*

This milestone marks the beginning of an exciting journey with RayOne Galaxy for Rayner in Brazil, enabling the organization to continue driving its focus on optimizing visual outcomes for surgeons and their patients around the world.

Dr. Gustavo Huning said “I’m honored to have been chosen as the pioneer for the first Galaxy IOL implantation in Brazil. I’ve been following with great interest the growing adoption of this lens as a first choice among many colleagues around the world. The approval by Brazilian regulatory authorities fills us with excitement and brings the state of the art in optical physics into the surgeon’s toolbox. I’m eager to assess its performance firsthand and explore the potential benefits Galaxy may offer my patients.”

Prof. João Marcelo Lyra, Galaxy Co-Inventor, commented “As a proud Brazilian surgeon, I’m thrilled about the availability of Galaxy in its country of origin. Since launching earlier this year, the response from surgeons and patients around the world has been phenomenal and so I’m excited to finally offer this groundbreaking technology to my own patients, which is an elegant fusion of optics, AI, and neuroscience.”
